Me making a purfume bottle in the University of South Australia 2014-15

A close up of the purfume bottle during the hot glass process.

After starting glassblowing at the age of 17 I have continued to expand my repertoire of skills and techniques. I have worked in several glass studios and businesses in the UK and Australia. I specialize in glass sculpting and have done so for the past year. I also like incorprate other materials in glass to realize my ideas.

Elevator pitch:

I have just finished my undergraduate degree in Glass and Ceramics at the University of Sunderland. Within this field, my greatest strengths are hot glass blowing and sculpting. In the University ,the hot Glass technician frequently needs and asks for help, including assisting with personal and Uni related work. I will be exhibiting my sculptures at the New Designer’s exhibition in London very soon. I have gained exposure and insight within the industry through these sorts of exhibitions.  Once I leave I will pursue a career as a professional free lance artist and maker, taking on commissions and studio placement work. I really enjoy teaching glass experience classes which keep me motivated and fulfilled, allowing me to continue producing my own work steadily. These classes involve a lot of public communication; this is extremely useful when it comes to talking about glass making and reflecting / advertising my practice. Directing and delegating people with specific tasks  is what glass making is all about. So having confidences and a calm head in stressful situations is a priceless skill, inside and out of this field. The more I help students get the most out of these classes, the more engagement I get out of them.
